Atomic Ammunition Subsonic .30-06 Springfield 175 Grain Hollow Point Boat Tail is a specialized centerfire rifle load designed to give shooters a very different experience from conventional .30-06 ammunition. Rather than taking advantage of the cartridge’s traditional high velocity, this load uses a 175-grain Hollow Point Boat Tail (HPBT) projectile at deliberately reduced velocity to keep the bullet below the speed of sound. The result is a distinctive .30-06 option intended primarily for specialized recreational and suppressed shooting applications where reducing the ballistic crack is a priority.

Shooters should therefore expect a significantly different point of impact compared with conventional hunting or match ammunition. Actual velocity can also vary depending on barrel length, atmospheric conditions, and the individual firearm.
Because the .30-06 Springfield was originally designed around much higher operating velocities, firearm function is another important consideration. A reduced-pressure subsonic cartridge should not be assumed to cycle every semi-automatic rifle chambered in .30-06. Bolt-action and other manually operated rifles do not depend on ammunition-generated gas pressure to cycle their actions, making their operating characteristics fundamentally different in this respect.
