.300 H & H Ammo

The .300 Holland & Holland Magnum, also known as the .300 H&H Mag, is a classic belted magnum rifle cartridge that was introduced by the British firearms manufacturer Holland & Holland in 1925. Designed to offer superior ballistics and versatility for big game hunting, the .300 H&H Mag gained significant popularity among hunters, particularly during the mid-20th century, before being overshadowed by modern magnum cartridges like the .300 Winchester Magnum and .300 Weatherby Magnum.

The .300 H&H Magnum features a belted case with a gently tapered design, which contributes to its smooth feeding and reliable extraction in bolt-action rifles. The cartridge is typically loaded with bullets weighing between 150 and 220 grains, and offers muzzle velocities ranging from 2,800 to 3,300 feet per second, depending on the bullet weight and powder charge. This results in a flat trajectory, making it suitable for long-range hunting of medium to large-sized game, including deer, elk, moose, and African plains game.

While the .300 H&H Mag may not boast the same high velocities as some of the more modern magnum cartridges, it is still known for its accuracy, mild recoil, and proven track record in the field. The cartridge has also been used successfully in long-range target shooting competitions, including the 1,000-yard Wimbledon Cup.

Today, the .300 H&H Magnum remains a respected and viable option for experienced hunters and shooters who appreciate its classic heritage, smooth performance, and proven effectiveness for big game hunting at extended ranges.
